Who is Steve

Story penned by Ben Crockett

Steve is more than a charming, somewhat scruffy fellow. As said already, he is a friend and brother to many. However to get to the essence of Steve, we'll start from the beginning.

Steve was born on July 9th, 1983 to Glen and Carla Symons of Osnabrock, ND. He grew up on a farm near Osnabrock with his three older sisters: Bobbi Cae, Kathy, and Jennie. He attended elementary and high school in Langdon, ND. Steve was very active in school, participating in speech, choir, and drama. He also spent a lot of time "touring" the ND plains with his rock band, playing shows across the state and into Minnesota.

After graduating in 2002, Steve decided to attend North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND. He is majoring in mass communication with a minor in political science. Steve is a very well known face across NDSU campus. He is active in the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and at time of diagnosis was chapter president. He participates in Blue Key National Honor Society, Order of Omega, and College Republicans. He has received recognition as a recipient of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges, an acknowledgement given to only the top one percent of NDSU Juniors, Seniors, and Graduate students. He also has been inducted into several other honor societies. Off of campus, Steve is a member of the Masonic Lodge, 49er Shrine Club KEM Temple, Scottish Rite, and York Rite. Steve enjoys writing music on his guitar and listening to music.

The important people in Steve's life include his family, as mentioned above, his wife Libby and his nieces Ashly, Brittney, and Jordyn. His brothers in Alpha Tau Omega, as well as many others are also a large part of his life.

On a personal note, Steve has had a large impact on me. I've had the privilege of knowing him my whole life. We've had a lot of interesting times together. Growing up, we had the usual sleepovers and running all over each others farms. Sure we had our differences. I liked Ninja Turtles and he was a G.I. Joe guy, but we let that slide. I always appreciated Steve including me and letting me hang out with him and his older friends. Sure, he's only a year older than me, but it still meant a lot. When he got his license, he drove me all around the metropolis of Langdon, population 2300. We would cruise to the "big" towns of Grand Forks and Fargo to shop and go to concerts. We saw an insane amount of concerts. As we got older, I was in his rock group with him. Those were some of the greatest times I will have in my life. We'd practice for hours and just goof off writing songs. Once we had enough songs, we'd take road trips to various towns playing shows and breaking stuff. It was great. The best times were when we could just hang out and talk. Conversations are never dull with Steve. He has a razor sharp wit, and frankly is one of the most stubborn people I know. Boy, did we have some entertaining arguments growing up. We were always jabbing at each others egos. It made for some fun and memorable times.

Once I got to NDSU, Steve got me over to ATO. He has a great passion for ATO and its members. I've had many awesome experiences with Steve my first two years of college. We're always doing things through the fraternity, but just hanging out and talking with him are the times I will always remember.

Steve is one of the greatest men I have or will ever know. I love him like a brother. I would do anything for him. He deserves to have a great life and will beat this condition. That said, thank you for visiting this site. Please donate what you can. Every dollar is greatly appreciated. GO STEVE!!!
